Flood Awareness Day

May 22, 2017

We recently held a Flood Awareness Day, where representatives from across the UK Insurance sector attended looking to improve their knowledge of flood risk and witness a variety of flood mitigation products being put through their paces in a BSI approved Test Tank facility.

The event was held at UK Flood Barriers' (UK Flood Partnership member) headquarters in Worcestershire, which is home to the Test Tank and Flood House.

Since it was formed 10 years ago, UK Flood Barriers has been a passionate advocate of industry standards and is a regular contributor to the debate around product and installation certification and flood insurance constraints.

Recognised across the insurance sector for its commitment to certification standards, UK Flood Barriers was contacted by a member of the RISC Authority with a view to supporting an awareness day for insurance sector representatives. They were particularly keen to work with a company that has extensive, hands-on experience of flood mitigation and UK Flood Barriers certainly fitted the bill.

A comprehensive, individually tailored Awareness Day was devised with the UK Flood Partnership, including presentations from other members, a live demonstration of the Test Tank and Flood House and a tour of training facilities.

The Awareness Day was devised to not only increase awareness and knowledge of insurance sector representatives but also to give the flood industry attendees the chance to identify where there are gaps in the current offer and where improvements can be made.

Frank Kelly, UKFB CEO, commented:

“For all too long now the relationship between flood product manufacturers, installation contractors and flood risk insurers has been fragmented.  Given all our businesses are dependent on effective engagement with flood victims, I am committed to getting various parties talking and more importantly acting in the interest of the end customer. This Awareness Day is an example of how, by coming together to share experiencing and learnings, we can start to make a real difference to people’s lives.”

An insurance sector attendee said:

"Good balance of attendees & Insight into flood current standards"
