About the UK Flood Partnership

The UK Flood Partnership is a member-based not for profit organisation, created to drive collaboration and investment in the flood risk sector.  Building on members’ diverse capabilities, the Partnership aims to establish a platform for a nationwide, multi-disciplinary approach to flood risk management that enables members to promote their products and services to a worldwide audience.  We are affiliated to The UK Water Partnership, and closely follow their activities and initiatives.

About the role

Applications are invited for the post of a Non-Executive Director of the UK Flood Partnership.  The role involves approximately 8-12 days’ commitment per year for quarterly board meetings, attendance at some of the organisation’s events, regular board conference call updates and being a general ambassador for the UK Flood Partnership. 

Job Specification

The scope of responsibilities includes: 

  • Attending quarterly Board meetings, usually held in London
  • Helping coordinate and contribute to projects/events undertaken by the UKFP
  • Attending and participating (on behalf of the UKFP) the Commercialisation & Economic Growth Group (CEGG) of The UK Water Partnership, held four times per year
  • Providing direction and oversight to various initiatives and task forces that may be agreed by the Board
  • Support promotional and showcase activities on the capability and benefits of the UK Flood Partnership, some of which involves chairing workshop sessions or being a keynote speaker at industry events, both in the UK and overseas (in the case of overseas events – the Partnership will cover expenses)
  • Working closely with DIT and EA teams to ensure greater collaboration on national and international opportunities and initiatives
  • Support the planning and operational management of the UKFP with appropriate business skills


  • A keen interest in and enthusiasm for the flood sector, to help promote innovation, advance the international agenda and promote the industry narrative for long term growth
  • Strong network of industry professionals (ideally both in the UK and internationally)
  • A reasonable knowledge of the innovation landscape – funding/academia/utility/industrial
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for the UKFP, both generally and in seeking to raise financial support for the organisation


This is a voluntary, non-executive role, and due to the UK Flood Partnership being in its early stage of development there is currently no remuneration available.  It is anticipated that applicants will follow the example of existing Board members and offer their time and expertise free of charge or reimbursement of expenses.  The role is available from the end of April.
